TVD Episode 5: Lockwoods vs. Salvatores vs. The Council

Talk about bringing everything out into the open but….EVERYTHING came out into the open! Caroline’s vampirism, Caroline working with Katherine, Elena and Stefan’s faux-fights, Damon and Stefan outed as vamps, the brewing war between Mason and Damon: you name the plot – it was taken to a whole ‘nother level.

And of course Katherine was waiting in the wings as everything played out to her liking. And Caroline was so totally killer!

Blood runs thicker than water as everyone tries to protect their own during the unveiling of a new historical park in Mystic Falls.

Caroline: You’re gonna pretend to be a mother?
Mrs. Forbes: I’ll bring my gun if it gets rough.

Caroline’s MIA mother Liz tries her hand at parenting again but Caroline brings her bitchiness in full gear to keep Mrs. Forbes from finding out about her new fangs. But Liz being the town sheriff always has killing and vamps on the brain.

Stefan and Mason try trucing but Mason correctly points out Damon started the war between them. Damon of course aims to kill and destroy the two brothers plan a way to take out Mason Lockwood.

Damon: I don’t want peace.
Stefan: Consider it opposite day.

Mason plots too and outs the brothers Salvatore to Liz (who’s a member of the secret council that hunts and kills the supernatural) by poisoning Damon’s lemonade with vervain.

Pissed as hell Stefan and Damon head off into the woods to kill Mason but get shot up with vervain and wooden bullets by the council. Liz takes them away to the old Lockwood estate to kill them.

Caroline: I can take you.
Mason: Wanna bet?
Caroline. Yeah. I do.

Meanwhile Caroline tries to come clean about working with Katherine but finds out about Damon and Stefan. After confronting and whooping Mason’s ass she saves Stefan and Damon while outing her vampy fangs (and disturbingly bloody face) to her mother. YUCK!

Liz: My daughter is gone.
Damon: You have no idea how wrong you are about that.

Liz decides she doesn’t want to remember any of this and agrees to Damon compelling her to forget (but not after Caroline hears her mother’s disgust at her new life). She comes clean to Elena and tells her Katherine threatened to kill Matt if Caroline didn’t do her dirty work.

What will Caroline do now that her mother hates her (even though Liz won’t remember)?

Will Elena and Stefan use Caroline against Katherine? And if Katherine finds out…is Caroline dead?

Elena: It’s you and me, Stefan. Always.

Since Damon held is own in the ambush and Katherine got into his dreams Stefan needs to be stronger if he’s going to beat Katherine and decides to start drinking human blood again. Elena – totally and rightly so against the idea – agrees to it in the end and lets Stefan drink her blood.

Can Stefan control his human blood addiction again? Does no one remember what happened during Miss Mystic Falls?

Back at the Lockwood manor Tyler and Jeremy bond over the supernatural and talk werewolves. Tyler decides to give Mason the moonstone.

Tyler in turn delivers the moonstone to his partner in crime – Katherine! The two are apparently lovers and Katherine hints she was the one responsible for making Mason kill in the first place to trigger the werewolf curse.

What does the moonstone do?
Is Katherine using Mason or are they really together?
What happens the next time Mason and Damon meet?
