Why is Katherine in Mystic Falls again? Stefan? Maybe. The Moonstone? Definitely. Anything else? Hell yeah! There’s still a huge mystery to unwrap but we do get a helluva lot of info on what Katherine has up her sleeve. Long story short: this season won’t end well for Katherine or Elena.
You can watch the full episode HERE and then get caught up below for this Friday’s all new episode with a preview below.

Jeremy, Stefan, Damon and Bonnie figure out Elena didn’t come home from the ball and find her with a spell. After Stefan and Damon take off to the rescue, Bonnie and Jeremy do another spell to send Elena a message help is on the way. But Bonnie gets overwhelmed by all the spells and starts bleeding. Good thing handsome Jeremy is there to help her out.
Bonnie and Jeremy. Jeremy and Bonnie. Did I mention this was all happening in Jeremy’s room on his bed, just the two of them real cozy all alone? No? Well, they were!

Stefan and Damon try the road-trip-bonding thing and realize it’s not for them. The elephant in the room: Damon loves Elena. Stefan knows Damon knows Stefan knows it. And Elena knows it too. That’s why when Stefan tells Damon Elena’s been letting Stefan drink her blood, you can see actually feel the hurt and jealously in Damon.
Yep, everyone knows exactly how everyone feels. And that it sucks to be the older Salvatore bro.

Meet Rose and Trevor. They are Elena’s vampire-kidnappers from the Masquerade Ball (with help from a compelled human Trevor has for dinner). They’re planning on sacrificing Elena to a young gent named Elijah. Actually, replace “a young gent named Elijah” with “one-of-the-original-vampires-who’s-very-strong-murderous-and-out-for-blood-named Elijah”.
It seems the curse on vampires and werewolves (vampires=sun slaves, werewolves=moon slaves) can be broken by killing a “Petrova doppelganger” which is who Katherine and Elena are (sort of spoiler: next week, we finally find out why the Petrova family is so important to the vampire mythology). Katherine faked her death with Rose and Trevor when the Originals (the first vampires) were going to break the spell way back when.

Rose and Trevor have been hunted ever since and they’ve finally had it. Well, they looked for trouble helping Katherine in the first place but I guess they finally learned their lesson 500 years later in 2010. Elijah accepts Elena for Rose’s freedom, but kills Trevor for helping Katherine escape the first time.
Told ya it was a helluva lot of info! Are you still following this or is it all way too confusing?

In the end Stefan and Damon come out horns blaring with Elena safely in tow. Elena does acknowledge Damon helped but stays in the arms of Stefan. And Rose manages to escape…for now…..
Elijah was left for dead after Damon staked him with a coat rack….but he’s still alive. And he knows where Katherine and the moonstone are (he compelled Elena to tell him before the Salvatores arrived).

But Damon has one more job to do: return the vervain necklace Elijah ripped off Elena’s neck. Before he gives it back he tells her he loves her, but also that he doesn’t deserve her; Stefan does. Then he sheds a tear…and compels her to forget everything he just said.
If that wasn’t the saddest thing you’ve ever scene, you’ve got to watch it again.

In werewolf news, Tyler and Caroline have it out as Tyler harasses Caroline to find out what he is. Well, tries to anyways. Caroline totally hands him his own a** each time he tries to attack her. It’s actually very funny seeing Tyler so damn frustrated. But they manage to bond and agree to figure everything out for themselves…except Caroline is totally hiding the whole “the Salvatores are vampires too and know all about you and Katherine has your moonstone” details.
Maybe she’ll tell him next week. Should she tell him everything? And what will Matt think about this new friendship-potential-love-interest?

The episode ends with Rose coming to Stefan to tell him their drama isn’t over. Elijah was just the messenger, one of the Originals. It turns out THE ORIGINAL is coming to claim Elena or Katherine for himself. A man named Klaus.
