TVD Episode 9: Sorry Klaus, It’s Katherine’s Game Now!

November 11th, 2011

Power play followed by power play followed by power play. This episode of The Vampire Diaries was like the Championship games of The Vampire Diaries. And I think every bookie would have been as worried as Elena and Damon during this episode – there were too many people involved they couldn’t trust to make their play work.

And believe me, the plays were WELL WORTH IT to watch! Michael may have had extra cards up his sleeve, Damon may have had an ace in the whole, but it was Katherine who delivered the deadliest blow.

And we’re not sure if it was a move for the better. But we won’t find out until The Vampire Diaries returns January 2012. Watch all the power plays HERE, then read on for how they pissed off the oldest and deadliest vampire in the world.

First the setting. It’s homecoming for Mystic Falls High. But after a water pipe mysteriously bursts, the party is moved to the Lockwood Mansion which quickly fills up with way more people than Mystic Falls has.

Why? KLAUS IS BACK. AND HE’S BROUGHT HIS HYBRID PACK!

Damon, Elena, Stefan and Michael needed to bring him back. Because Stefan can’t lie to Klaus, Elena really kills Michael, and Rebecca confirms the kill.

That was powerplay one.

So Klaus is back…but one step ahead. In case this is a trap, he broke the water pipe and moved all the high school students to his boy Tyler’s as bait for a bloodbath if a fight goes down.

That was powerplay two.

Rebecca is still conflicted about whether or not she can got through with their plan to take down Klaus…so Elena daggers her unsuspectingly to take her out of the equation.

That was powerplay three.

Michael has the only known stake made from the white oak that created the Original vampires, and plans to use it to kill Klaus. Except Stefan may get in the way since he’s been compelled. So when Michael comes to, and the plan is set in motion, Damon has Michael bite Stefan to take him out of play.

That was powerplay four.

Back at homecoming, Klaus knows something is up. So he gives Tyler and Elena ample time to call off whatever they’re planning. Elena naturally says screw you, but Tyler takes out Caroline and gets Matt to remove her from danger.

Michael shows up at the Lockwood Mansion and starts the attack. Klaus has all of his hybrids ready to pounce if he’s attacked. Except since they’re have vampire, Michael can compell them…and compell them he did. To obey him instead.

That was powerplay five.

Michael can’t get into the mansion, so he grabs Elena instead. Either Klaus comes out and fights him like a man, or he kills his only source of making more hybrids. And we know what that means for Klaus – all he ever wanted was to not be alone, and now his father was taking away his only means to not be alone.

He calls his father’s bluff, and Michael kills Elena. That wasn’t part of the plan FYI.

That was powerplay six.

Shocked, Klaus is caught off guard at seeing Elena die and is free for Damon (who is able to enter the Lockwood Mansion) to attack him with the stake and kill him for good. Except Stefan stops him before Damon can kill Klaus! Klaus gets back on his feet…and kills Michael instead AND destroys the stake!

That was powerplay seven.

Before the hybrids can start attacking everyone…Elena rises up and drops wolfs-bane bombs on all of them! It wasn’t Elena after all! Knowing they couldn’t trust Michael anymore than they could trust Klaus, Damon and Elena swapped in Katherine instead!

That was powerplay eight.

So why did Stefan stop Damon from killing Klaus once and for all? That move was all Katherine’s. Klaus warned “Elena” at the party if Damon attacks him, his hybrids are compelled to tear Damon to shreds. So Katherine goes to the one person who can save Damon: Stefan. After Michael bit Stefan, Katherine woke him up and told him what was going to happen to Damon. So Stefan saved Klaus, and in doing so, saved Damon.

In return, Klaus gave Stefan back his free will. But there was still one play left to make. With Klaus free, and the only weapon to kill him destroyed, how does Stefan and the gang make sure Klaus leaves them alone? Let’s just say Katherine saves the day one last time.

With Michael dead, Klaus can safely wake up his other siblings. Except they’re not wear he left them. Stefan and Katherine took all the Originals (except for Rebecca, who’s dead at the Salvatore Mansion) away from him! And Stefan’s going to keep them for as long as it takes to put Klaus down.

That was powerplay nine. And it was a good one!

And now for the one move none of us saw coming. The whole reason Stefan agreed to Katherine’s idea in the first place was the fact he couldn’t live with himself after all the murders he committed while he was with Klaus. And Elena and Damon know that. So they’ve both finally said good-bye to Stefan and move on.
