MuchMusic is proud to support the UNITY Festival, a festival aimed towards celebrating the talent and diversity of today’s youth. The 2013 UNITY Festival will be held from July 18 – July 21. UNITY Festival runs July 18 -21st with a FREE concert at Yonge-Dundas Square to Celebrate National UNITY Day with headliners including Talib Kweli, RichKidd, Scott Jackson, Scratch from the Roots, Lazylezs and much more!

UNITY engages and empowers youth to be leaders and role models in their communities. UNITY Festival is a urban /hip-hop festival celebrating the voices of youth, their art, their story and OUR community through beatboxing, breakdancing, mc/spokenword, graffiti art and much more!

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on UNITY Festival performer and Beatbox artist Chris Fernandez.

Chris Fernandez (Once Known as C-Stylez) is a Filipino Beatboxer. He was raised in Mississauga within a family of five with two older sisters. Before Beatboxing, Chris was a very athletic individual. He played soccer and basketball and competed at a high level at a very young age. As years past by, Chris found a new passion with beatboxing when a close friend introduced beatboxing to him in high school and Chris has been showcasing his talent since 2006.

Through the years, Chris has risen to become a known top tier beatboxer all around North America and become one of the Top 16 Beatboxers in Canada in 2012. With his unique Epic Musicality beatbox style like no other, he has gained success in his beatbox career and has traveled coast to coast to various cities competing, showcasing, and performing along side other Canadian artists such as Danny Fernandes, Shawn Desman, Karl Wolf and many more. Chris has also appeared on commercials such as the MuchMusic Coca-Cola Covers and UNITY.

Chris has also developed an interest in teaching the youth around the Greater Toronto Area through UNITY to become Elite beatboxers themselves and passing the knowledge of beatboxing towards them to keep the Canadian beatbox scene alive. Chris has battled among the best in high level battle leagues such as KING OF THE DOT & FLIPTOP (Philippines Hip hop battle league).
