After premiering some new songs at SXSW this past week, Vampire Weekend are officially back. Earlier today, the NYC-based band released two new songs, “Diane Young” and “Step.” Both tracks have that Vampire Weekend sound you love: punchy drums, twinkling keyboards, and sing-a-long lyrics. But at the same time, these songs sound refreshing and a bit more sophisticated. Vampire Weekend’s third album, Modern Vampires of the City comes out on May 7 via XL Recordings.
Oh yeah, and I’ll try to forgive Vampire Weekend for capitalizing on this whole lyric video phenomenon. Only because this video for “Step” taught me that Ezra Koenig sings about Angkor Wat, Mechanicsburg, and Dar es Salaam.
