Vans, The Secret, And Interviewing Slash

My Sunday night… (A bit long but worth it I swear!)

First, some back story:

I have been trying to find a pair of ankle high old school Vans for months…no one in the city has my size and no one can seem to order them. In fact, as recent as Saturday I did another search of the city, still no dice; but like The Secret tells me (for anyone who has read it)….if I think positively, they will be mine…right?

So, Sunday night I go to the venue to interview Velvet Revolver (videography style, all by myself). I get there super early, all my gear checked and working, but still no word on WHO I’ll be interviewing - I’m really hoping it to be Slash, like you have no idea! I have been so excited to interview him!!! I wait 45 minutes longer than the call time but it’s all good. I get upstairs and it’s Slash and Duff so I’m super pumped!

All of a sudden there is a camera problem - I try to fix it on the spot but no dice. I have to rush back to the station to get another camera! They are cool and really want to do the interview so they say they will wait.

I get back to the station and back AGAIN to the venue in record time only to find out that now it’s going to be Duff and Dave. I’m totally bummed!!!!! Nothing at all against Dave, I just really wanted to interview Slash, I’m sure you can understand.

Anyway, the interview happens - it’s a good one, but no Slash. Then Dave asks me how much I want for the shirt I’m wearing. I thought he was joking, but he really wanted it. He says maybe I can trade you something for it? Duff looks at my feet and says “he likes Vans - give him a pair of yours” (turns out Dave has a sponsorship and like 10 pairs in his dressing room).

I follow Dave into his room where Slash happens to be sitting, smoking and playing guitar. He is laughing at the whole situation and even pipes up and says “maybe I can give you something for the shirt and then Dave can owe ME,” he chuckles, and keeps playing guitar and smoking, it was SO surreal.

So Dave says…”you want a pair of VANS?” and I spot the old school Vans I have been looking for…brand new, not even laced. I tell him I’ll take them. He is bummed because he just ordered them; I try them on but they are size 11 and just too big, now he is pumped and I’m MORE bummed. ANYWAY, he takes my information and is ordering me a pair from his hookup at VANS and I’m getting my sneakers after all!!

Imagine, had I not had a camera problem I would never have gotten these sneakers, let alone for the price of a used Black Market button-up plaid shirt. So the moral of the story I guess is if you read The Secret…make sure you harness this power correctly because even though I am getting my sneakers…I would never in a million f@#$ing years have traded them for the opportunity TO INTERVIEW SLASH!!!!

Ugh.
