For purists out there, let’s first off clear up that this compilation is properly titled, Paper Bag Records vs. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. (Can’t make a headline too long, y’know?)

As part of Paper Bag’s 10th anniversary celebration, the Toronto label has curated a tribute album to David Bowie’s classic 1972 album featuring 12 bands from the roster recreating the songs. Born Ruffians kick it off with “Five Years,” The Rural Alberta Advantage tackle “Starman,” Elliott Brood do the title track and Polaris nominees Yamantaka // Sonic Titan do “John, I’m Only Dancing,” which technically wasn’t on the album, and is listed as a bonus.
