VFest 08: Bloc Party Tear It Up!

Bloc Party are in the midst of tearing up the main stage. They’re five songs in, performing their first ever big single, Banquet, and everyone is loving it. Really, really thick crowd at this point. So far they’ve also played So Here We Are (which was their opening song), Hunting For Witches, This Modern Love and Positive Tension (my personal favourite). Kele was having quite a few technical difficulties during Halo (the second song) but he’s had his guitar replaced and all is good now. This is the band’s second time performing on Toronto Island - they headlined a show a few years ago with Broken Social Scene and a few other bands (can’t remember at the moment)! As usual, Kele gave much praise to Toronto, one of his favourite cities, and remarked on how perfect a combination live music is with a beautiful setting sun in the city of Toronto.

The TD stage is now running about 40 minutes behind thanks to a domino effect started by Shudder To Think’s extended set earlier today. Then Spiritualized took forever to set up, and it all snowballed from there. It’s not ideal but we’re adding about 35-40 minutes to our call times for the side stage.

And can I please draw attention to how amazingly gorgeous Russell looks with his slick, fitted leather jacket?! Ace.

  1. Flux definitely wasn’t played.

  2. Yeah eh? But that’s what the setlist that I grabbed from the stage said. I wonder if anyone can clarify the actual setlist for us?

  3. According to Blog Party, the setlist is correct except for One Month Off and Flux being played, which meshes with my memory. My guess is the technical difficulties buggered up the set.
