So I just saw my first ever VFest band perform: Shudder to Think. A band that has been around for eons (since 1986 to be exact), broke up (in 1998), and then reunited earlier this year. They are now doing a few shows at various VFests, but not that many (around 5 or so) - so this is a rare treat indeed.
Unfortunately their set was early in the day and on one of the side stages, so the crowd (although incredibly appreciative and supportive) wasn’t all that huge. But the sun was shining, lead singer Craig Wedren’s bald head was glistening and he was more than happy to take continuous swigs from a bottle of wine. But unlike, say, Amy Winehouse at Glastonbury, he still remained somewhat classy. No fans got punched in the face.
Oh - and they sounded great - Craig’s voice was stellar and completely pitch perfect.
(Although don’t tell him this, but does he remind anyone else of our very own Gord Downie? No? Not even just a little bit? Hm. OK. I’m crazy then).
