VFest Calgary: The New Pornographers

Oh, New Pornographers! It pleased me so, so much to hear two of your biggest songs right off the top of the set (My Rights Versus Yours and Use It), partially because I had to bust back to the main stage to catch the last chunk of Matthew Good’s overlapping set, but also because hearing two bangin’ singles back to back that way meant that people’s ears really perked up. So by mid-set the side stage was the fullest it had been all weekend as people listened attentively to the mega-group from British Columbia tear through four albums’ worth of material.

I had a chance to talk to Carl Newman and Kathryn Calder before they went on stage about their thoughts on the slow food movement and how best to tackle a weekend of festival food and sweaty crowds. Keep an eye out for that interview soon-ish!
