Watch the video: We The They ‘Pastures’

This video is like watching a storybook from your childhood come to life. And I mean straight-off-the-page kind of ‘come to life’. Something about the illustration reminds me specifically of the book ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, that I was recently re-introduced to by a good friend. (Cue the ‘Oh yeah!’ and ‘I forgot about that book!’ bursts of excitement…maybe?) But, instead of monsters in the night, it has cowboys, an Indian, a villain and a damsel in distress. Exciting, I know. But don’t get too over-stimulated yet, because if you watch closely you’ll even see a cow and some buffalo. To have those 2 species together in illustration with music is, to quote the great Russell Peters, “Mind Blasting!”. So really, how could you not like this video?

I’ll tell you what. If you dislike old western-ish type plays, illustrations that move to a musical track, seeing someone get rescued from being tied down to a train track or happy endings, then you won’t like this video, I’m sorry. IF, however, you do enjoy these things, it’s all in the vid! Ain’t life grand? The only things missing from this video are a good old western bar fight and a showdown.

I like the use of camera zooms throughout the video. It helps to make the illustrations come to life and it draws intensity to certain scenes in an equally effective way as if you were watching a video with the actual band members. Clearly, a lot of work was put into the creation of ‘Pastures’ and it shows. Hence, the reason it’s the pick of the week.
