We had a chance to ask Jesse McCartney about his steamy video for Leavin’, the first single from his upcoming album, Departure (which comes out next Tuesday, btw!). Here’s what the humble cutie had to tell us!

MuchMusic.com: The video for “Leavin’” is very sexy, can you tell us a little bit about the filming of that?

Jesse: I had a couple of ideas for the Leavin’ video: one really big, the other really intimate. In the end, we went with “really intimate”, and I’m glad that we did!

I worked with Sanji Sedaka, who also directed the video for She’s No You, from my first album. Sedaka is the king of shooting intimate. He’s the cinematographer, the DP, and kind of often “out and about”, experimenting with incredibly oblique camera angles. The end result was beautiful.

There’s a “rawness” to it as well. It’s something so stripped down, no pun intended, that there’s nothing to distract you from what’s going on in the video, so you have no choice but to pay attention to it.

And Nicky Huey, the actress, did an incredible job. We saw over a hundred girls for this video, and she was definitely the right one. I’m really happy with her performance. And she became a friend of mine; we’re cool now!
