The best song from Young Galaxy’s excellent Shapeshifting album gets some visuals. Unique in this age’s music video landscape, according to the press release Montreal artist Carine Khalifé “was inspired by the textures and depths rooted within the song. With paint as her medium, Carine spent four months creating a series of paintings captured frame by frame with a fixed camera. The process took place inside a darkroom, with a single light source coming from beneath the glass to reveal various textures and brush movements. ‘I worked a lot with transparency. The more paint, the darker the image, and therefore the animation became about gesture, and the texture of brushstrokes. It’s a very physical, organic process. Everything is based on the rhythm,’ she explains.”
In other news, you can download the band’s We Have Everything EP for free over at the Paper Bag Records online shop. Grab it here.
And congratulations to YG members Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless, who recently welcomed a baby boy into the world. This means they’ll now get back on the road for a tour that begins in Minneapolis on September 11th with Junior Boys.
