UPDATE! Today (September 28) is the last day for applications, but remember: you can still vote until October 12th! Keep reppin your favourite candidates!

Attention all potential VJ candidates, wannabe hosts, on-air hopefuls and talking kittens,

We know you’ve got questions about the Online VJ Search. Tons of ‘em. So here’s where we start the discussion of major issues, and will do our best to answer any questions you may have in the comments!

Basic questions and answers after the jump!

How old do I have to be?
Everyone’s got a dream, man - so everyone can audition. Creativity knows no boundaries, so we wanna see what you’ve all got!!

No really, how old do I have to be to be a VJ?!?
Okay, so it’s a job application. Everybody is welcome to apply, but remember - in the end it’s a J.O.B. and you’ll have to be able to commit the time. Otherwise, go nuts!

K, so what do I have to do to enter?
It’s a four step process.

STEP 1: On the application page, we’ll ask for some personal information [we keep this private].
STEP 2: The meat of the application: your photo (a clear, accurate portrayal of who you are - no friends in the pic please!) and your online social umbrella! We wanna see links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and blogs/websites, which will be shared with voters online to get to know the real you! Prove that you’re a social media butterfly cause the more people can see, the better - but just make sure your personal contact info isn’t available!
STEP 3: More serious questions, like “Why do you want to be a VJ?” and “What’s your experience/connection to music”? Your answers will be kept private, but we need to know more about you!

What’s the deadline for auditions?
You can submit your audition anytime from September 8 to September 28.

What’s the process of the whole search?
After September 28 we’ll take a couple weeks to sift through all the entries and select 16 finalists. Those finalists will be given challenges for several weeks that will be available for everyone to view online. The challenges could be creating blogs and video reviews, working as a teams, working individually, etc. The challenges start October 13 when we announce the 16 finalists and we’ll slowly start eliminating finalists every few weeks… until we bring 4 finalists to MOD for the final on-air challenges and showcase our new VJ in early December! We’ll give you more information on this shortly.

Ahhhh!!!! My audition has been made public but I still need to add stuff to it, like my audition video. Help!?
Don’t despair, we can help you out. Send us an email to vjauditions@muchmusic.com and we can go from there! Make sure the email subject title is: “Help me with my audition: First Name Last Name”
*Edit: This help was only possible until Monday, Sept 28 at 5pm, when submissions were due. Now that submissions are closed, we are also closed for editing your profile. What you currently have up, is what will stay. But as long as you linked to your YouTube page, people should be able to find your video.

I auditioned but I don’t want my profile shown!
Email us and we can take it down, but that also means you are no longer eligible to be a VJ! If that’s the case send an email to vjauditions@muchmusic.com with subject title: “Remove me as an applicant”.

What are and how do ratings work?
Ratings are one factor of many that help MuchMusic decide who makes it to the next round – the 16 Finalists. Make sure you get people to rate you. All entrants have from the time their entry is approved till October 12 to get ratings!

  2. How long does it take (approximately) for an application to be processed (IE. Submitting the application to seeing your profile shown)?

  3. yay i’m applying :)
i’ve only wanted to be a VJ since i was SEVEN YEARS OLD.
    anyways, question!
is there an easy way to find yourself on the page to see how your page looks or to see how your votes are going?
i went through about 100 of them and wasn’t sure how to find mine.
if you could help me out, that would be fantastic! :)

  4. Is there a way on the application to attach your formal resume as well?

  5. This is a response to Paige: I randomly found mine while I was going through a bunch of other ones…It was a little tedious, but it was also cool to see all the other submissions. My suggestion would be to get a few friends to check out the site too and then when they find yours they can send you the link :)

    …hmm that wasn’t too helpful… Sorry :(

  6. How are you going to choose the top 16? Will it be based on popularity, like how many views they get/what their “hot” and “cool” rating is or their actual content?

  7. Is this vj search an annual event? I would love to audition for it, but I want to complete my education first.

  8. can you be under 18?

  12. I noticed that is was said no music allowed or music videos. do you get disqualified if you use them anyways??

  13. @Golden: You are not DQ’d if you use music, however, as your video is housed on YouTube, make sure you adhere to their terms and copyright rules [ http://www.youtube.com/t/terms ] if you use un authorized music, you may be asked to remove your video or worse. This is for your own protection and that of the YouTube community!

  14. Hey trying to apply but once I click on go to step 2 it just restarts me on step 1???

  15. does the headshot has to be professional?

  16. do you neeed to have a video?

  17. @Eddie, no the headshots dont need to be professional, but they need to be a solide head shot, staight angle. (no myspace angles!) :D

and does anyone know how you can see your profile once you’ve entered? thanks!!

  18. will this vj search be on tv?

  19. WHat format should the headshot be sent in?
Like a direct link, and IMG code, etc.?

    By Jennifer-lee on September 23, 2009 at 9:55 pm |
  21. Yeah…Ive applied a couple of days ago, and I have literally spent hours looking through the entries and cannot find mine….How do we know where it is, so our friends can vote, OR how do we know that it is actually up?

  22. Hey Guys,
Just wanted to know if we will get a confirmation email saying when our application was approved and when we have a gallery on the vj 2.0 website. I have a facebook group and wanted to post the link. Let me know!

    Thanks

  23. @hussbuss: I believe a confirmation mail is not sent out :-(

  24. For the person who I want to win, do I click 5 stars for hot and cool or 5 stars for hot and 1 star for cool?

  31. Hey Much!

One quick question… The public date for the top 16 is October 13th but when will the successful applicants find out?

  32. Hey Much,
It says that if we have a problem with our audition for us to send you an email to vjauditions@muchmusic.com with the email subject title as: “Help me with my audition: First Name Last Name”
I sent one early yesterday and still have no response and am really hoping on getting my who video dilemma sorted out ASAP!

    Thanks!

  33. is there an easy way to find your profile?

  34. Hi,

I have a very big favor to ask is there any way to still apple to the VJ search, and its not that i’m so last minute, it’s that I’ve been really sick and i’m finally better. I wouldnt want to miss such a great opportunity because of a fever….lol and you wouldnt want to miss out on me :-) Please I’ll definitely prove I belong because the combination of my dorky/ADD personality will make you laugh, my acceptance of being confused with really big words makes others around me feel really smart and comfortable, cuz i’m just like everyone else just BETTER LOOKING!!! :-) remember thats a big smiley face.

  35. What time today will they be announcing the 16 finalists? will it be on MOD? or just during commercials?

By Coolarepeople on October 13, 2009 at 12:48 pm |
  36. Are the finalists being announced on MOD or?

  37. Have to say, Im a little bothered that a couple of the finalists have already had prior exposure to Much Music on other Much Music shows, like Disband and My Date With… It makes me wonder about the practises behind choosing the finalists. I realise its a tough job to whittle down 3000 to 16, but come on, it’s a little strange that these people who have worked with Much before ended up in the top 8.
