Making "Good" TV
Steve Anthony - Episode4
The best TV is one in which someone dies or is seriously injured. I've been saying that for years (I have a little self-indulgent footnote at the end of this blog). And, boy, did that
almost happen. Frank and Erik almost got into it. We were deliberating when we heard about the donneybrook (isn't that the term that Don Cherry uses? And did you know that that guy just turned 72? Freakin' unbelievable). We were actually laying odds about who could take whom. In lieu of actual bloodletting, my proposed compromise would be Frank and Erik having a good ol' fashioned indian leg wrestle. But, no one listens to me in this regard.
I truly think that Nathalie's greater strength is behind the camera. That position takes the skills she has shown, and are, oftentimes, more important than the face in front of the camera.
I hope that she takes this as an opportunity, not a failure.
It is going to be really interesting to see how things play out in the penthouse now. Erik was called out, told that he "set up" Larissa for a fall, pissed her off, pissed off Frank. I can anticipate alliances happening now, and Erik better watch his back.
So, what did you think about Robin's little hissyfit, with his note cards being thrown at the VJs? Sometimes I think Robin was raised by wolves.
Footnote: Something I used to really like to do when I was on air at Much was to, unannounced, run at the front window and slam myself against it to freak out people that were outside looking in. Slam! I used to do it a lot. Kind of became something I was known for doing. I would even get up in the middle of an interview and do it. Then I heard this story. It may or may not be true, but it certainly is the stuff of urban legend. Seems there was this guy who worked in one of the bank plaza towers downtown that used to watch me and would do that same thing; running and slamming himself against a window in his office on the, like 40th floor, which was funny to his colleagues until the window, one time, didn't hold, and he went through, falling to his death.
Great story, huh? But it was never on TV. And, as we say, if it isn't on tape or wasn't on TV, it never happened.
Who knows?

Steve...you are perfect for this panel, you're upfront and direct without killing the spirit(a very tough quality to come across) and in many ways I'm reminded of the late great Barry Sarazin(ever teach radio broadcasting?) The blend of Humanity and constructive criticism is great. Keep it up!!

You want some good T.V.? Vote both Erik and Frank off next and put them your little Loser Loft side show together for the next 6 weeks. Hell, if you did that I might even get cable and start watching MuchMusic again! Deal?

You know what this show needs.... MORE STEVE ANTHONY! I've missed you since you left Much in the mid-90's, seriously, you are the only reason to watch this show!

Mr. Antony, been watching you since the 80s. I accidentally came upon a repeat of the VJ segment # 4 (first one I watched)yesterday at noon. I thought it well edited, professionally judged. I've experienced the Canadian Idol judges (as an interviewer, not singer) and you guys really were impressive. You actually gave contstructive criticism. For those of us viewers who care, thanks! Sometimes I question my memory, but didn't you have a memorable interview with Taylor Dayne - where she was not impressed with your interview skills/questions. Funny how those things stick out! I also remember (?) you calling it like it is with Joey Lawrence (of Blossom fame) - something referring to his bublegum music. I also remember your Spring Break trips to Florida (shaven chest and all LOL).
