The king of covers
February 15th, 2013
For a Canadian band, there are a few ways to make you feel like you’ve made it. One is having the opportunity to embark on a world tour. Two is getting love from Pitchfork. And three is a Polaris shortlist nomination. Of course, there is a fourth, but the chances of it happening are slim to nil.
Vancouver’s Japandroids have achieved the first three: touring the world over, earning Best New Music from P4K twice, and making the Polaris top ten in 2012. And while that might seem like the world is their oyster, hockey fans can make the dreams of David Prowse and Brian King come true.
The duo’s single “The House That Heaven Built” has been nominated for Project NU2, the official Vancouver Canucks hunt for a new entrance song. According to the Canucks organization, the team received 2,853 submissions that were narrowed down to just six.
Also up for the honour are two other Vancouver bands, Nickelback and Static in the Stars, as well as Guns ‘N Roses, DJ MEG and Volbeat. Seeing as King and Prowse are known Canucks die-hards, well, you might as well give it to them.
Check out the very convincing Japandroids entry below, and then make your vote here. Let’s make their dream come true. It would basically be the equivalent of the EGOT for a Canadian band.Tweet
