Wanna Be A MuchMusic VJ?

Remember MuchMusic’s VJ Search from years past? In 2006’s “reality show” edition (which I remember because it equalled a midnight shift for a couple of us…ew), many of you voted for Tim Deegan in the sizzling season finale.

Think you can do better? We’ve got a MuchMusic VJ Open Call happening next Saturday, February 28 from 10am to 5pm ET.

If you think you’ve got what it takes and want to inject MuchMusic’s programming with some much-needed verve and enthusiasm for pop culture and music, come down to MuchMusic headquarters (that’s 299 Queen Street West, as if you didn’t already know) with a headshot and resume. MuchMusic producers will be meeting and talking with everyone that comes down.

OR, if you can’t be here on Saturday, you can upload your audition video directly to us right here for us to watch.

UPDATE! Many of you have asked followup questions in the comments, and here are the answers!

1. What are the age restrictions? You must be 18 or older to audition.

2. When is the deadline to send in a video if I’m not coming down to MuchMusic HQ? There’s no deadline on the video submissions. We’ll keep your submission any time we’re casting for on-air roles, whether it’s for a VJ, Video On Trial juror, or other parts.

3. What are the headshot requirements/dimensions (if any)? – No headshot required - any photo will do. Just make sure if there is more than one person in the photo to indicate which one is you.

4. Is this for a summer contract position or is it permanent full time (ie what if I’m in school)? We are casting for a new full time VJ. But we are always on the lookout for new talent!

5. Is there a time limit for the audition tape? Don’t make it longer than 3-4 minutes. We’re a distracted bunch and we get bored quickly!

  3. How long can the videos be? I tried submitting one already but I have yet to see it under my videos. I don’t want to have to re-shoot the whole video if I included something I shouldn’t have.

My question is, is this position for a summer position doing on air programming such as MOD, or other hosting duties as assigned? if you could provide me details regarding that, that will be great. None the less, I’m very much interested in trying this field out, I have been a much music fan for years, and would love the chance to showcase much music my talents, I will be uploading my videotape ASAP, but in the meantime if you guys could answer my question that will be cool. thanks again for your time, and much music would be honoured to have a talent such as myself on their program staff as a host.     I am just wondering if the head shots required for the interview/audition have to have specific requirements regarding dimensions and professionalism. Also, as someone had asked earlier in the discussion, when is the deadline to send in the video?

  11. Who the Flip would want to lower there intellectual standards and be a puppet on a string? If so please continue to apply to the most unimportant,irrelevant network in the the TV universe.Make sure your only 10 to 11 years old when applying—- thats the target group of these nazi-hucksters….Also make sure you— barfbags down a couple cases of gravol……this comment might leave you with indigestion..

  16. Hi Melanie, not sure. It will probably be a short interview with producers to get an idea of your personality, but be prepared to show off, just in case they ask!

  18. just wondering, when you send in an videotape for the open call, who do you send in the tape to? is it anyone specific or does the tapes get viewed by any of the producers?

  19. The tapes get reviewed by producers but you don’t need to address to a specific name. It’s best to upload to the link above, though!

    I would have LOVED to attend the open casting call, but I was unable to be in Toronto that day…I am heading there next Saturday and will be in town doing a tv-related internship for 6-7 weeks though and would still love to come down and meet with you guys if possible- are there going to be any more opportunities to do so in the future or can we only submit videos from now on? please let me know!   24. Hi! I created a profile on ‘Show Me Yours’ and uploaded my 3 minute video submission for the VJ casting call!

    I read in the FQA section that it does take some time for videos to be approved to be viewable online. I also read however, that you can check somewhere to see if your submission is/isn’t pending approval.

    My question is, where do you go on the site to check that out?!!! I’m looking but I can’t seem to find it anywhere!

    Just wondering when everyone who showed up for the face-to-face interviews will hear back about who’s moving on to the on-camera stuff.
    I assume that everyone who didn’t make the cut won’t hear back, but will you be at least posting some kind of updated info for when you’ve all come to your decisions?

    I tried to upload my video on the website given above but it does not notify me saying “video uploaded.” Is it supposed to?
    I don’t want to keep uploading the same video because that’s annoying…
    Please let me know if I should keep trying or if there’s another way I can show you guys my audition…(like youtube?)

  41. I have been out of the loop for some time now, so I have no clue if you already did this VJ media project but you still have this contest open so I am assuming their is still a chance. If so theirs no need to keep looking for people that require the need to entertain big groups because I will gladly submit a audition tape for pure fun and amusement for all! I really don’t want to waist time on a project where the position has already been filled so could you tell me my chances for this since this contest has been posted for over seven months now? If I have a 50/50 chance then I will I give you a peek of what I have to offer to your high media corporation as a potential VJ with the need to have fun!
