Warped Tour Stage

Shiver me timbers, another Warped Tour has come and gone like an estranged uncle playing peek-a-boo. Although the venue remains unchanged from last year, the essence of the warped zeitgeist has underdone a slight shift. Gone are the neon clad “crunkcore” kids of tours past. This year marks the return of the mullet and barely post tween-agers sporting more tattoos then they have teen-stache hairs. Black is also the new Black in terms of warped fashion. This is what My Chemical Romance warned us of in “Welcome To The Black Parade”. Fortunately there were no Starbucks’ in sight to have their windows smashed (too soon?).

Every Time I Die

Due to the torrential downpour of rain in the morning the first band we were able to check out was hardcore veterans Every Time I Die. They belted out “Hot Damn!” classics like “Ebolarama” and “Floater” and even did a rendition of Nirvana’s “Tourettes”.

Dillinger Escape Plan

The highest energy set of the day was definitely Dillinger Escape Plan. They opened with “Fix your face”, which is exactly what I had to do after they promptly melted it off. They also played “43% burnt” to the delight of all the long-time fans.

The aggressive nature of Dillinger’s music sparked the type of mosh pit not seen since the likes of Woodstock ’99, where linebacker sized dudes re-enacted a game of Madden. Just make sure you hang on to your shoes if you get caught in one of these.

Before there was Abandon All Ships, the OG dancecore band was England’s very own Enter Shikari. The crowd fist pumped to songs from both their albums, “Take to the Skies” and “Common Dreads”. The highlight of the set was the handclap extravaganza Sorry You’re Not A Winner

We haven’t heard a lot from the boys in Sum 41 since they released 2007’s “Underclass Hero”. Now that the former Mr. Avril Lavigne has some more time on his hands the band will be releasing their new album “Screaming Blood Murder” at the end of August. The Sums played hits like “Still Waiting” and “In Too Deep” with Tom from Gob now on lead guitar.

While some bands hold short autograph signings at their booths, Andrew W.K. hangs out at his for most of the day meeting the fans. He looks super stoked to meet everyone. The dude just wants to party.

fun stuff

When you’re not checking out bands at Warped Tour there’s other stuff to do. You could hit up the slip and slide to stay cool, or watch some skateboarders shred by the beer garden. Some people even chose to dress up. I spotted a hog pirate and a banana among other things.
