One of the true classic videos of the 1990s was “Drop” by the seminal west coast Hieroglyphics crew, The Pharcyde. Directed by Spike Jonze, the 1995 clip featured the four members of the group performing their song while walking in the street – in reverse.
Now a short documentary on the eye-poppin’ promo has been unearthed, showing just how Jonze and the crew pulled it off.
Of course, making a video in reverse seems pretty easy, but according to the five-minute doc, Jonze made them learn their lyrics backwards using a “private linguist” and then reversed the tape to make the final cut of the video. Jonze, The Pharcyde (Imani, Slimkid3, Bootie Brown and Fatlip) and the linguist are all interviewed.
