Fresh off of awards season for Les Misérables, Hugh Jackman is returning to theaters this summer as our favourite superhuman in The Wolverine. Director James Mangold shared a new six-second Vine teaser of the latest X-Men film via Twitter today.
Based on Chris Claremont’s 1982 Marvel comic arc, The Wolverine follows Logan’s adventures in Japan after the events of the first three X-Men films.
“Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before,” says the film’s official synopsis.
Although extremely brief, the footage teases us with fight sequences between Wolverine
and samurai sword-wielding opponents. The new teaser also confirms Famke Janssen’s cameo as Jean Grey. Since she died in the second film and was revived as the Phoenix in the third, it’s safe to assume that her appearance in this will either be a flashback or dream scene.
Fans can expect a double dose of the franchise when the cast of the original trilogy and prequel join forces in X-Men: Days of Future Past, scheduled for a July 18, 2014 release. For now, you can anticipate The Wolverine, which comes out this year on July 26.
The full trailer will be release this Wednesday. Stay tuned to Much.com this week for all your Wolverine updates!
