Toro y Moi is one of the most dropped names of 2011, thanks to his universally praised album, Underneath the Pine. Initially lumped in with the chillwave crowd, Chaz Bundick, as he’s known to his parents, has usurped that absurd subgenre by expanding his sound to include a wide array of live instrumentation and putting an exotic spin on applying his funk and soul influences.
During a stop in Toronto earlier this year, Chaz spoke with The Wedge about the pronunciation of his name, that somewhat controversial album cover of his, working with Tyler, the Creator and how he felt about being named a “beautiful person” in Paper magazine.
