While the film is still two weeks away from its October 14 release, the criticism surrounding Craig Brewer’s remake of the beloved 1984 hit Footloose has already begun to accumulate. As a big fan of Footloose I was skeptical that a remake could live up to the original. But with Brewer behind the camera and newcomer Kenny Wormald in the lead role of Kevin Bacon’s Ren McCormick, the 2011 rendition of Footloose is able to stand on its own and please old and new fans of the film.

We sat down with director Craig Brewer to talk about Footloose, working with Wormald and Julianne Hough, and getting Jack White to sign on for the soundtrack. Watch the interview under the jump and find out how to attend an early screening of the film!
