With the release of the final Twilight film only weeks away we finally get our first taste of the Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack. Appearing for the first time in a Twilight film, Green Day have penned the track melancholy love song The Forgotten. Maintaining a sombre feeling throughout the piano-driven ballad, the song fits perfectly with the finality of the upcoming film and the loss in the final battle scene.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has no trouble connecting with the forlorn love triangle of Twilight, singing lyrics like “Don’t look away from the arms of tomorrow/ Don’t look away from the arms of a moment/ Don’t look away from the arms of love.” Pushing their musical boundaries, Green Day show growth in The Forgotten, focusing on string instruments instead of their more classic pop punk sound.
The video features images of Green Day performing on stage and in a recording studio along with never before seen shots from the final Twilight film, due out in theatres on November 16th. One of the most stand out shots in the video is a back to back comparison of Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen playing the piano for his new daughter Renesmee, contrasted with Armstrong tickling the ivories in his studio.
Due out November 13th, the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack also includes new songs from Ellie Goulding, Passion Pit, Feist and Twilight star Nikki Reed.
