We gave you the heads up last week that Taylor Swift would be performing her new single, Ronan, at the Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon on Friday, but for those who missed it can now watch the performance online.
The new song is a departure from the country-pop star’s signature spunky, autobiographical melodies and sees the singer showing her sadder, more serious side. Ronan was written after Swift read the blog of cancer victim, Ronan Thompson’s mother Maya, who is credited as a co-writer. In the song, she sings, “Race cars on the floor, plastic dinosaurs/I love you to the moon and back.”
Maya Thompson later on posted on her blog, revealing the story of how she received a phone call from the singer, telling her about the song she had written for her son.
“She could have done this for anybody, Ronan. Anybody. But she didn’t. She did this for you and for us,” Thompson writes, in her blog post dedicated to her son. “Thank you, Taylor for this gift you have given us. I promise to make you both proud of all the goodness that is going to come.”
The song is available on iTunes now and you can watch the performance below.
