So, legendary video director and Oscar nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze has directed the new Arcade Fire video. What a team! The clip is for the song “The Suburbs” and to give you a sense of what to expect, try some kind of hybrid with the DNA of M.I.A.’s “Born Free” and Smashing Pumpkin’s “1979.”
It all starts off with some good, harmless but still a little reckless teenage fun. Kids riding around on their BMXs, making out under bridges, slinging guns over their shoulders… wait, what?
And then, the law enforcement gets involved, locking down neighbourhoods, infiltrating homes, and bringing some martial law. All of a sudden, the teens aren’t so carefree, getting frisked and arrested, breaking up, fighting, even getting their bikes crushed.
Keep your eyes peeling for Win and Regine as a couple of shotgun-toting law folk.
