Emma Watson will be the recipient of the Trailblazer Award at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, announced MTV.com today. The Trailblazer Award, which was previously given to Emma Stone, honours successful young talents who are “actively carving out their own unique and diverse path in the film industry.”
The 22-year-old British actress has achieved a lot for her age. After playing the brilliant Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series for ten years, Watson took a surprising career route. Instead of seeking star vehicles with her name as the sole headline, she decided to take scene-stealing supporting roles in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and My Week with Marilyn.
Next up, Watson adds more prestige to her resume by working with film auteurs, Darren Aronofsky in Noah and Sophia Coppola in The Bling Ring. Like her recent choices, both are secondary roles, proving that you don’t need to be the lead star in order to be successful.
Watson is a perfect choice to receive this recognition after Stone. First name coincidence aside, the two share some similar qualities in their careers. Both continue to surprise audience with their diverse film choices, and have managed to keep their personal lives as private from the public as possible.
The 2013 MTV Movie Awards will air live on MuchMusic on Sunday, April 14. Be sure to stay tuned to Much.com for more updates on presenters and performances!
