Wavves – “Hippies is Punks” (stream)

Oddly enough, it was a bit over a week ago when I had a debate with my friends over how similar hippies are to punks. The imagery of brute physicality associated with the typical Oi! punk, contrasted with the serene, woodsy spirituality of the psychadelic hippie, creates a strong case for the ‘Hippies is not Punks’ camp. Favouring the ‘Hippies is Punks’ camp are the tenets of free love and expression and a counter-cultural, subversive status. Nathan Williams creates his own amalgam with some noisy, abrasive punk rock which borrows from summery surf-pop.
