Watch Sunday, April 13
Miley, Charlie and more!
January 22nd, 2014
This Sunday, we’ll be crowded around our televisions and computers watching the most relevant award show, the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. Coincidentally, it’s also hosted by the most relevant rapper, LL Cool J. In anticipation of the big night, we’re looking at the 30 + artists who are set to perform and revisiting some of their first performances at the Grammys. Hold on to your hats because you’re about to go back in time through the Internet time machine!!!!!
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be performing this Sunday and accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of The Beatles. The Beatles won Best New Artist in 1954 but the Internet failed me at finding a video of it. So, here’s Paul McCartney (with some Linda McCartney arm candy) accepting an award for Let It Be in 1971. FUN FACT: Paul still has the same hairstyle but without sideburns!
Dave Grohl will be hitting the Grammy stage with Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham. Dave Grohl has been nominated with Nirvana and Foo Fighters but took home his first award in 1996 with Nirvana. Here’s the Foo Fighters performing The Pretender all the way back in 2008.
Daft Punk had a big 2013 with Random Access Memory but let’s take a trip down memory lane (see what I did there?) to their first nomination in 1998 for Da Funk. They might not have won but they oughta win this year since they’re nominated 5 whole times. Here’s their 2008 Grammy performance with Kanye West.
Surprisingly, 2014 Grammy performer Katy Perry has never actually won a Grammy but maybe 2014 is her lucky year. I mean, if you’re dating John Mayer that’s gotta bring you luck, right? She was first nominated in 2009 for I Kissed A Girl and got to perform the song live. Check out the super pixelated, hardly watchable video below!
Unlike Katy Perry, 2014 Grammy performer Taylor Swift has won a ton of awards including Album of the Year for Fearless in 2009. Here’s T-Swift actually singing country songs and looking extra-innocent in 2008 with I’m Sorry and White Horse.
Powerhouse couple Beyoncé and Jay Z will be performing together this Sunday and it’s going to be one of helluva performance! They’re no newbies to the Grammys either; Jay Z has won 16 awards and Beyonce has won 17. Correct me if I’m wrong (I know you will, Internet) but I don’t think they’ve ever performed together at the Grammys, so here are their first(ish) performances at the award show.
See ya’ll Sunday night!
