“We Are The World: 25 for Haiti” is finally here. A 3-minute clip of the highly anticipated remake of the classic charity song debuted last night on NBC during the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
The clip opens with Canadian teen-sensation Justin Bieber singing producer Lionel Richie’s verse from the original version. Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Hudson and Celine Dion are strong presences throughout the song while Miley Cyrus, Enrique Iglesias, Pink, Mary J. Blige and Fergie also take on solo verses.
And of course, a rendition of “We Are The World” would not be complete without the inclusion of original collaborator Michael Jackson. The late King of Pop shared a split-screen moment with sister Janet Jackson during the first verse of the chorus.
The world of hip hop was represented by auto-tuned verses by T-Pain and Lil Wayne while Kanye West, Will.I.Am and Haiti’s own Wyclef Jean also rhymed on the track.
Canadian director Paul Haggis directed the video and enlisted the help of a few students from the Ciné Institute in Haiti who witnessed the devastating earthquake. A couple of those students appeared on our MuchTalks: Haiti special last month to share their story. Eleven students and staff in total from the Institute travelled to Los Angeles to participate in the video shoot.
You can check out the entire 8-minute music video debuting on MuchMusic at 2pm today. The full song is now available on iTunes.
