Miley, Charlie and more!
January 23rd, 2014
This happened with Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and heck, this even happened to Outkast recently: people had no friggin’ clue who these artists were. The first two arose after their triumphant Grammy wins and Outkast confusion came up when the hip hop duo announced their Coachella return earlier this month. That’s totally fair, guys. It’s okay to not know certain artists, we don’t know EVERYTHING when it comes to music after all.
But with British band Bastille performing on this weekend’s episode of Saturday night Live, we just know that puzzled viewers will be scratching their heads and thinking “What’s a Bastille?”
So before you park yourself on your couch for the evening, take a few moments to read this little introduction to one of England’s biggest acts right now and sound like a genius while discussing their performance instead of furiously Googling them or even worse, tweeting “What’s a Bastille?” (Yes, we totally tweeted that last weekend during Drake’s episode of SNL)
Say hello to Bastille.
Fronted by Dan Smith, Bastille used to be a solo project till Smith turned it into a four-piece rock band.
But speaking of Smith, look at this guy’s hair. It defies gravity.
Of course, the band is named after Bastille Day a.k.a. French National Day (which is actually the same day as Smith’s birthday — smart!).
Bastille’s first few singles were liked, but didn’t build much buzz… Perhaps you know them, though?
Their fourth single Pompeii hit it big, though. You totally know this one:
They’ve since been nominated for a bunch of Brit Awards and have even gained recognition across the pond here in North America.
And now they will make their big debut on Saturday Night Live so best of luck, guys!
