Miley, Charlie and more!
January 20th, 2014
Today is January 20th, which means we still have a long, long, long time until winter finally gets off our backs and let’s us enjoy the sunshine past 5 pm. If you’re still with me and haven’t become overly depressed from my opening sentence, lets move on.
Some people go south for the winter. Some embrace the cold temperatures and take up sports like skiing and curling. Some hibernate and catch up on movies. Others let the chilly temperatures get to them and say stupid things online. Those are the people we’re going to talk about today. Here’s a list of people we think need to take the winter off from social media.
Madonna has always been known for her being provocative with her image and words, but the Material Girl crossed a line this weekend. Madge uploaded a picture of her teenage son Rocco boxing and captioned it with the N word. She has since deleted the copy and posted an apology, which thankfully doesn’t try to make any excuses for her gross oversight. Earlier this month, Madonna posted another picture of 13 year old Rocco with his underage friends, while holding liquor. You’re killing me, Alice. You’re goddamn killing me.
The duck dust has barely settled after Duck Dynasty family leader Phil Robertson made homophobic comments during a November interview with GQ Magazine. One Direction’s Liam Payne caused his own controversy this weekend when he tweeted at Robertson’s son Willie, saying “Huge love to you/your family huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you still all behold. Big fan.”
Many took this tweet as a slap in the face towards the gay community, with Payne immediately going on the defense and tweeting “Being a fan of someones show and they way they still hold their family together doesn’t mean im okay with all they say” (sic). For his part, Willie appears to be a Duck Directioner, tweeting “Thanks bro. Congrats to u boys as well. Y’all keep rockin, we’ll keep quackin. Stay strong in this nutty world.”
In the midst of one of his biggest scandals yet, which began with egging a neighbors house and has escalated into Justin Bieber’s house being searched by police and a member of his entourage arrested, Bieber went on an Instagram spree over the weekend. The pop star posted a series of Instavideos and pictures from his weekend snowboarding trip, including a video of himself dancing on ice to French Montana’s Ain’t Worried About Nothing. I guess Biebs isn’t interested in the sympathy vote.
After too many missteps to list in one sitting, Labeouf has announced on Twitter that he is retiring from public life. I’ll believe it when I see it in sky writing.
