A beloved character is about to say goodbye to Springfield in The Simpsons’ upcoming 25th season, but who? Executive producer Al Jean isn’t revealing too much at the moment, but gave a clue earlier this week, telling Sun News: “I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.”
Research tells us that nine voice actors have won an Emmy for their role on the show, so I guess that narrows it down a bit? Actually, not really.
BUT, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to make some guesses. We’ll explain why we think these characters are in danger, what the chances are of them being the one being axed from the show and, most importantly, how we think they’ll die.
Make your guesses in the comment section and let us know what you think of our predictions!
Grandpa Simpson (voiced by Dan Castellaneta)
The elder Simpson, Abe is often known as Grandpa Simpson to Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Much like several of the characters on this list, we’re surprised to still see Grandpa alive. Always accident prone and getting himself into dangerous situations, whether it’s just putting an iron to his ear (irons aren’t phones, Grandpa!) or fighting an alligator that’s stuck in a toilet, Grandpa has had his fair share of near-death experiences.
And, come on, this scene can totally foreshadowing:
How he will die: The Simpsons accidentally leave him unattended somewhere and Grandpa gets eaten by an alligator.
Odds of dying: 6-1
Sideshow Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammar)
Bart’s arch-nemesis Sideshow Bob may not appear in many episodes, but he is an essential character in the Simpsons world. Having failed to successfully murder Bart many times over the years, Sideshow Bob (an old sidekick to Krusty the Clown) has been both a scary villain and a surprise nice guy. With all of this covered, maybe this is it for our favourite bad guy?
How he will die: In one final attempt to kill Bart, Sideshow Bob gets caught in his own plot and kills himself.
Odds of dying: 3-2
Comic Book Guy (voiced by Hank Azaria)
Everyone’s favourite (or least favourite) store clerk, Comic Book Guy, has had a heart attack in the past so he’s always in constant danger of more heart problems, especially with his love of cheeseburgers and other fast foods. Plus, Bart and Millhouse took over the store once, why can’t they permanently take over?
How he will die: Death by lightsaber fight.
Odds of dying: 4-1
Rabbi Hyman Krustofski (voiced by Jackie Mason)
Krusty’s Jewish father is on great terms with his clown of a son now, but at the age of 74 (man, Simpsons Wiki is specific!), maybe it’s time for him to say goodbye to him and Springfield?
How he will die: Clown-related accident.
Odds of dying: 5-3
Edna Krabappel (voiced by Marcia Wallace)
Bart’s 4th grade teacher is known for three main things: not caring about her students, her chain-smoking and the long list of Springfield men she has been with. But in recent episodes, the school teacher has found a new lover in widower and Simpsons neighbour Ned Flanders. She is on the high-risk list of potential characters being axed, but they wouldn’t do that to Ned again, would they?
How she will die: Lung cancer.
Odds of dying: 5-1
