Katy Perry has just released her video treatment for her upcoming fragrance called Killer Queen and we call shenanigans. Doesn’t it look oddly similar to the Queen B, Beyonce’s video that promoted her o2 Priority spot for her tour when she was in the United Kingdom? Katy says that the fragrance was inspired by “the song ‘Killer Queen’ by Queen… Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.”
That’s great Katy, but I don’t think you pulled off the look quite right. I want more grandeur! More boastfulness! More exploding bras! (kidding/not kidding). A Killer Queen is not quaint, she’s bold. Katy’s teaser video falls a bit short on that quality. And on top of this, it just seems to steal from Beyonce’s video without the same high taste.
