Who Would You Rather: Breaking Dawn or New Moon?

November 21st, 2011

It seems North America would rather do New Moon’s newly ripped Jacob Black, but the rest of the world would rather do Breaking Dawn’s recently wedded Edward Cullen. In either case, the Twilight franchise is making mucho moolah: Breaking Dawn pulled in $283.5M worldwide in its opening weekend.

In North America, the movie did not out-do New Moon. It pulled in $139.5M versus New Moon’s $142.8M around the same time two years ago. But it did beat New Moon internationally, pulling in $144M (in 54 countries) to New Moon’s $132.5M (in 25 countries).

Breaking Dawn still managed to pull fifth place in Biggest Opening Weekend Sales for the U.S., following Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 3 and New Moon.

But wait til you hear about the international sales!

But it’s those international sales, my friends, that popped Breaking Dawn in 10th place for Biggest Worldwide Opening Weekend Sales. Breaking Dawn trails Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Funny thing: the previous holder of 10th place was Twilight: New Moon at $275.3M.

After having her face burned with a curling iron, Tyra gave Eboni a mantra of “you can burn me, but you can’t break me”. If burning yourself with a curling iron and still going to work is what makes a great model then I’m Kate Moss.
