Double WOW. Literally, within hours of her birth, little Blue Ivy Carter AKA the daughter of hip hop royalty Beyonce and Jay-Z, has charted on Billboard‘s Top 100 Songs for the week with “Glory” (it debuted at number 74).
If you thought Blue was going to be famous…YOU WERE RIGHT! But could anyone have guessed how soon her claim to fame would come? We don’t think anyone called it at less than seven days old. “Glory” is fully credited as Jay-Z featuring B.I.C. (his daughter’s initials), with the songs featuring her first sounds of breathing and cooing after she was born.
If anyone’s about to say “but isn’t that weird?” or “isn’t a baby to young for that?” we’ll say no. Stevie Wonder did it back in 1975 (according to Billboard.com) with his new-born daughter Aisha on the song “Isn’t She Lovely“. However, Aisha doesn’t get the honour of being the youngest Billboard charter since a) Stevie never actually credited her on the song and b) the song didn’t even chart until two years after Aisha was born.
Blue Ivy has the wonder of 21st century technology on her side, not only getting a song recorded with her father in record time, but getting it across to the masses faster than Stevie Wonder could.
Enjoy a little piece of history and listen to B.I.C. make her musical debut below:
