Before They Were Stars!
May 16th, 2014
The Billboard Music Awards are going down this Sunday and there’s no better way to celebrate the long weekend than to sit back, relax and take in some incredible music. Not convinced? Well look at the top five reasons why you need to tune in to the big show.
The Billboard Music Awards airs this Sunday, May 18 at 8E/5P on CTV.
All of the amazing performers
The list of stars taking the stage on Sunday is insane, spanning from Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus to John Legend, Luke Bryan and 5 Seconds of Summer. If anything, the performances alone will make for a super entertaining evening of music!
It’s a great warm-up for the upcoming MMVAs
MMVA performers Imagine Dragons and Lorde will also be hitting the stage on Sunday, so this is a great way to get a sneak peek at what’s to come on June 15 here at the Much HQ! Find out more about the MMVAs here!
Robin Thicke’s big romantic gesture
The Blurred Lines star, who is nominated for seven awards, is slated to perform at this year’s show and TMZ is reporting that Thicke will be debuting a new song, one that will hopefully win his wife Paula Patton back. The couple announced their separation earlier this year after allegations of cheating, but Thicke has been very vocal, especially at his concerts, that he wants Patton back. The rumoured new song is apparently called Get Her Back. Good luck, Robin!
The famous rapper will be hosting the evening and as we’ve seen on various shows and films, this man is a serious entertainer. And no offence the to Grammys, but we have a feeling he can out-host LL Cool J any day. Just look at this amazing segment on Conan below. This Sunday is guaranteed to be…ludacris.
J.Lo to receive icon status
Jennifer Lopez will receive the Icon Award this year for her contribution to the Billboard charts throughout the years. In addition, she will also perform twice at the show, once with Pitbull premiering this year’s FIFA World Cup anthem We Are One (Ole Ola), and also debuting another song First Love from her upcoming album A.K.A., out on June 17.
Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande will perform the song of the summer
Ariana Grande and rapper Iggy Azalea will bring their latest single Problem to the stage and we are convinced that it is going to be the summer anthem of the year. Or at least one of many. Either way, they are going to rock it. Too bad Riri won’t be in attendance. She was clearly such a fan of Grande’s performance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
