M.I.A. was born today in 1975 and has been blazing a trail ever since she hit the scene with her first album, Arular in 2005. M.I.A.’s real name is Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam and she grew up in London. M.I.A. attended the prestigious Central St Martins College and was a visual artist. After being encouraged to practice music, she eventually came up with a demo that resonated with fans all over the world and landed her a recording contract with XL Recordings. She has since released Kala in 2007, Maya in 2010, and fans can look forward to her next album, Matangi, this summer. Matangi will be released through Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation. M.I.A. has always inspired fans for her ability to speak out through her music so today we’d like to celebrate her contributions to the music industry with this play list. You guys ready?
