It’s actually dangerous

A big reason why fans flock to Drake’s OVO Fest every year is to see the impressive list of special guests who roll up onstage. From Kanye West to Stevie Wonder, Drake has yet to disappoint his fans. This year, the rapper brought a staggering list of guests from OVO crew members OB Brien, PartyNextDoor and Majid Jordan to superstars Usher, G-Unit and Lauryn Hill, last night was packed with artists who Drake reveres as his peers and major influences.
But we couldn’t help but still wonder where some of Drake’s biggest players were that evening. There were some significant holes in this roster of guests and we demand some answers! Take a look below and see who was MIA at OVO this year:
One of Drake’s closest friends Nicki Minaj had been making headlines all weekend, first with a mind-blowing remix of Beyonce’s ***Flawless and then with the release of her latest single, Anaconda. So with all of these fresh tunes out, you’d think Nicki would capitalize it all by showing up and supporting her pal, Drizzy. But instead, Drake dove into his Thank Me Later collab with Nicki, Up All Night, and her vocals were blasted throughout the stadium sans the star herself. Sigh.
The Weeknd has performed at OVO Fest before, but we still expected to see him last night. Much like Nicki, Drake just went ahead and performed their collab, Crew Love, without the R&B singer. Where was the crew love, Abel?
When Drake was listing off some of the most influential players in his career, we totally thought he was going to bring out Lil Wayne. After all, where would Drake be without Young Money? But alas, Lil Wayne was also a no-show, leaving Drake to tackle HYFR all by himself.
Jay Z and Beyonce
One of the biggest rumours this year was power couple Jay Z and Beyonce. With a day off from their On The Run tour, many fans kept their fingers crossed for the two to jet-set over to Toronto for OVO, but no dice. Perhaps the couple couldn’t find a sitter for Blue Ivy?
This was actually confirmed prior to the big night. But due to Chris Brown’s criminal record, the once-nemesis of Drake’s couldn’t make it across the border to debut the duo’s new single.
Well, this was obvious, but one could dream!
Yes, Kanye was the big guest last year, but if we called the shots, he’d be back every year. Seriously, can we make that happen?
Even with these missing stars, OVO Fest amazed us with the guests Drake did bring out. I mean, we got to see this last night:
I REPEAT, THIS:
SORRY, ONE LAST TIME: THIS. THANK YOU, DRAKE.
