Xbox Canada holds an annual event where game publishers display their latest and upcoming game titles. Yesterday Mark and I were able to preview some of the anticipated game titles coming to consoles this fall season. Some of the titles that were there have recently been released including Beatles Rock Band, NHL 10 & Halo ODST.
Some of the new titles that we got to preview were DJ Hero, Tony Hawk’s Ride, Left 4 Dead 2, Forza Motorsport 3 and the highly anticipated GTA IV downloadable episode The Ballad of Gay Tony. These titles are being released soon and at perfect time too with the holiday season coming upon us.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a first person shooter that is pretty fun to play. You play as one of four surviving humans fighting off infected villains with anything and everything. At one point while Mark was playing he fought off zombies with a frying pan! It seems like Left 4 Dead involves a lot of running around which can make the game feel a lot faster. That is until you have a broken leg and can barely walk.

DJ Hero seemed pretty cool and the turn table it comes with is a pretty neat instrument. I can DJ Hero being a popular fad a house parties or just with a bunch of friends but I can see it getting boring if you were to play it by yourself. The songs seemed to blend into each other which is a ‘Hero’ game first and would let you keep the party going without cumbersome song selection menus.

Tony Hawk’s Ride is something new and innovative. Its controller is in the shape of a skateboard deck with actual grip tape on it. For all you skateboarders out there, this should be on your wish list. You may not be able to actually do a kickflip or ollie over something but it will give you the realism of skateboarding like Tony Hawk!

Forza Motorsport 3 impressed me the most. Maybe it was the way they had the game setup but I am definitely looking forward to this release. They had three screens, a Microsoft steering wheel and a racing seat to test out all the latest cars on some of the most famous racing tracks around the world! This title will definitely give Need For Speed: Shift a run for its money as both are great racing games.

Since the release of GTA IV over a year ago we’ve seen The Lost and The Damned and now we’ve got The Ballad of Gay Tony. Still based in Liberty City, you play as a member of a Dominican gang and are the bodyguard of Tony Prince (Gay Tony). The gameplay seemed a little crisper and smooth which should make the game easier to play. Scenery was bright and airy, and there seems to have been a bit of polish put on the game making it look cosmetically more like Vice City than the gritty Lost and Damned. Seems the garbage strike ended in Liberty City as well as Toronto. If you liked GTA IV you’ll really enjoy The Ballad of Gay Tony as if will deliver more action and more stun t s than any previous GTA game.
Conspicuously absent though was Canadian made Assassins’ Creed 2. We can only hope Ubisoft has an amazing launch event planned to intro this game. It definitely needs to steal the spotlight this holiday season.
Some accessories were also on display which included a 250 gig Modern Warfare 2 skinned Xbox; a Rock Band Beatles limited edition skinned Xbox and the famous Halo 3 ODST controllers. This holiday season should make any gamer happy with a bunch of new games being released.
