With the Fall Season quickly approaching it could only mean one thing to gamers, a tone of awesome games being released. We recently attended Microsoft’s annual Fall Games preview event and all gamers should note that we are in for a good couple of months of games. On display was anything and everything you can think of that is going to be released on Xbox 360 this upcoming fall. There were definitely a few games that I already know will contend for the Game of The Year title.
Before I get into the meat of the games let me quickly touch on some awesome sports games. Every year EA Sports manages to out do itself and sucker me into getting the newest NHL and FIFA titles. And this year is no exception. NHL 12 sees a bunch of new features but none are probably more awesome than Legends and increased goalie interaction. NHL 12 will allow you to add some of the greatest players to ever lace up skates to your current team! Imagine a line with Sidney Crosby & The Great One Wayne Gretzky! And now with more interactive goalies, you can bump into them and they’ll retaliate by slashing you or throwing a punch, pretty great! On hand at the event were cover athlete Steven Stamkos and NHL legend Jeremy Roenick who were playing against each other. This year’s FIFA 12 title is more about improving the games engine rather than new features. Players are now more intelligent than ever and feature real time injuries depending on the force of impact and speed of the other player making it more realistic.
The next two sports games that will have people going ‘Wow that’s incredible’ are Forza Motorsports 4 and UFC Undisputed 3. Forza 4 is the latest title in a franchise that has improved tremendously over the years and has become one of the premiere racing games. Speaking to one of the reps from THQ at X’11, UFC Undisputed 3 is the UFC game you want to get. If you are like me you skipped the second game and are thinking about getting this new one. Well let me tell you, after playing a round or two the game has really improved from previous versions and is worth a pick up.
Next up is the one game that was probably the coolest game at X’11. When Guitar Hero was released back in 2005 it brought music and video games to a new level, but when Rocksmith is released later on this year it will bring playing a guitar and video games to a level that no one would think would happen. Using any real guitar you can play along to your favorite tracks and become a better guitar player as you go through the game. What’s neat about Rocksmith is that it makes learning and playing a guitar that much better. Before getting to play the song you need to make sure your guitar is in tune. If it’s not you’ll need to tune it before the song beings. This is pretty awesome since it doesn’t just shoot you right into the game. What’s also cool is that the game adapts to your ability. The game understands how well you can play and will push you to the point where it knows that you’ll be able to complete the song without feeling overwhelmed. It’s a pretty smart game and will definitely hit the spot for all the users who want to learn to play guitar or those who haven’t played in years and want to refresh their guitar playing skills.
Batman: Arkham City is the follow up to the 2009 hit Batman: Arkham Asylum and builds to an already great game. New features include Catwoman as a playable character, new gadgets for Batman, new storyline, new enemy characters and more! With the ability to play as Catwoman you play a seperate storyline that seamlessly links to Batman’s storyline. Enemies Joker and Harley-Quinn return to battle Batman, however they are not the only ones. Penguin, Mr. Freeze and Two-Face are just a few of the new characters to be added that Batman will have to battle. This is definitely one of the games that should compete for the title of Game of The Year. Batman: Arkham City is scheduled to be released October 18.
The journey of Ezio, Altair and Desmond will come to an end in November when the final Assassin’s Creed is released. This will mark the end to what is an amazing franchise and a personal favorite of mine. Everything from the storyline to gameplay this game has it and look forward to the end of this amazing story. Not much has been added to this game but there have been updates. The online multiplayer has been given a refresh with more modes, maps and characters. Throughout the game you’ll be able to play as Ezio and Altair, which is awesome considering we haven’t seen Altair since the first Assassin’s Creed and briefly in the second one. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is due out in stores November 15.
Another amazing game franchise is coming to an end. Gears of War 3 marks the end of Marcus Fenix & The Delta Squad’s fight against the Locust and save planet earth. Besides fighting of hordes of Locust’s, Delta Squad encounters a new enemy the Lambent. Building on the previous games, GOW3 allows you to play as male and female characters. Besides introducing new enemies, Gears 3 features a new multiplayer mode called Beast Mode. In beast mode you play the role of the Locust army fighting off waves of humans. This is pretty cool if you were a fan of Horde mode which is the opposite of beast mode. The Gears of War saga ends September 20 when the game is finally released.
Last but definitely not least is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. MW3 will continue the storyline from Modern Warfare 2 where the Russian Federation continue to invade the United States. Similar to MW2 you will see that the Russians have gone beyond just the US and started attacking other European countries. If the previous game was any indication, MW3 is going to be a blast to play whether you’re playing the campaign, co-op or multiplayer. All the MW3 action goes down November 8, when it is finally released.
I don’t know about you but I know for sure that there will be plenty of nights when I get little sleep due to these games and it’s going to be totally worth it!
Until next time,
