It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the fun, poppy Europe music scene, but today while looking at Billboard’s European Hot 100 Singles chart, I noticed that in the number 4 spot, following OneRepublic, Leona Lewis and Rihanna, there was someone I had never heard of before: Yael Naim.
So I did a little research: She’s in her late 20′s, born in Paris and grew up in Israel. Her sound? I would liken it to Feist. It’s airy and light, yet somehow contains weight.
The single on the charts is called New Soul. Give ‘er a listen. I’m sure the plunky piano and the cute accent will win you over in no time:
PS: She also does a great, very mellow and eerie cover of Britney Spears‘ Toxic.
