J£zus Million might not be a household name just yet, but if you’ve heard Charli XCX’s album, True Romance, you’ll definitely know his beats. The 19-year-old from Boston produced two of its tracks – single “What I Like” and the Brooke Candy-featuring “Cloud Aura” – as well as this summer’s “Illusions Of”. Often drawing comparisons to Clams Casino, Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, and influenced by Dilla, he submerges his snapping beats in woozy clouds or shape-shifting sonic frenzies. Cold Shoulder is his debut mixtape, and it gets a boost from buzz rapper Sasha Go Hard and rising London singer Yadi.
About Cold Shoulder, he told FACT, “Cold Shoulder was initially going to be an EP of old beats I had made last year but ended up scrapping it because I had moved on to better ideas and fresher sounds I enjoyed experimenting with. The tracks have no common thread through them. However, being young and on an undetermined leave of absence from school and ‘doing the music thing’ — many doubt, many give a cold shoulder. It’s not bothersome though.”Tweet
