Every boy must become a man. And in the hypermasculine world of rap there is no room for boyishness. To quote Southern Christian hip-hop crew 116, you gotta man up. And that’s what Young Jeezy has decided.
In an interview with MTV’s RapFix, the rapper sometimes known as Snowman and/or Jizzle (while you’re dropping names, how about this one?) said it was time to make the change. “I’m grown now; I did enough of that,” he said. “It sounds good because when I came in the game that’s who I was and that was my state of mind, but I’m a grown man. Those zeros get to adding up, you gotta drop the ‘young.’”
A very mature statement indeed. And not the first time a rapper has admittedly grown up. Remember Lil’ Bow Wow? Or Lil’ Romeo? (It’s okay if you don’t.)
So who’s next? Might I suggest Young MC, who is now pushing 50? Or maybe Lil Flip, who is 6’1″ and 31 years of age. Just a thought, guys.Tweet
