The XM Satellite Verge Music Awards took place last night, awarding three very privileged artists with a wad of cash. With the likes of Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Stars and The New Pornographers all nominated, underdogs came out on top as the big winners.
Taking home the prestigious Album of the Year honours and a fat cheque for $25,000 was Toronto’s Zeus and their Arts & Crafts-released LP, Say Us. Also taking home $25k was Windsor-based newcomers Michou, who were awarded Artist of the Year.
Vancouver native and Wal-Mart jingle writer Hannah Georgas was given $5,000 as Emerging Artist of the Year.
